“It is better for you if you wear a normal cap or a surgical cap while working 5-10 days before the hair transplant. If not, try to work in the shade or in the mornings or evenings if you are working in the fields,” he advised.
Is hair transplant covered by insurance?
PTC Napolean asked about insurance coverage for hair transplant. Dr. Watts was clear: hair transplant is classified as elective surgery.
“Neither government nor private insurance companies provide cover for the hair transplant procedure. However, financial companies like Bajaj Finance provide EMI schemes that you can avail yourself of,” explained Dr. Watts.

“There are several reasons why many ultra-rich celebrities may not prefer a hair transplant procedure even if they are going bald. Some do not opt for it as a choice as they feel comfortable with a bald look, while for others it may be a case of lack of donor hair,” explained Dr. Watts.
Is hair transplant the right solution for thinning hair?
Vijay asked whether a transplant can fix hair thinning. Dr. Watts explained that a transplant is not the right solution for this problem. When hair strands are thinning, the follicular unit may still have one healthy strand while the others weaken. Transplanting such donor hair would not yield the density a patient expects.
“The first thing to do to solve your problem is to find out the exact cause for your hair thinning problem. It could be due to nutritional deficiency or vitamin deficiency. You need to consult a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis and start taking medication,” he advised.
He also mentioned that volumising shampoos and hair fibres can help camouflage thinning in the interim.
